How to prevent bleeding gums?

Bleeding gums is a fairly common and very unpleasant phenomenon. Why it happens and what should I do about it?
Gums may bleed for dental and other health problems. If this happens rarely (for example, while brushing your teeth), it is no big deal. Bleeding gums may appear because of hard toothbrush or irregular movements while brushing. It is recommended to choose a softer toothbrush and start brush your teeth gently in circular motions. This should stop bleeding gums, if the problem lays only in improper brushing. However, if the problem persists, you should look deeper and take appropriate measures.

How to prevent bleeding gums?

  • Eat fruits and vegetables every day. They provide all necessary vitamins and minerals.
  • If you want to have healthy teeth, you have to get enough of vitamin B, which you can get eating whole grains.
  • Eat dairy products, such as natural yogurt or sour cream. They contain beneficial bacteria, which adjust acidity in your mouth and reduce the risk of gum diseases.
  • Choose a right toothbrush. It should be soft, or at least medium softness.
  • Do a lot of rotary vibratory movements while brushing your teeth and try to brush all sides to reach all surfaces of your teeth.
  • Do not forget to floss. You have to do it every evening after brushing your teeth.
  • Make sure to remove plaque from your tongue.
  • Pay attention to what and how you eat. Snacking biscuits or bread rolls is one of the most favorable ways for soft dental plaque to occur, which often leads to gingivitis.
  • Use a mouth rinse each time you brush your teeth. This way you will not allow accumulation of plaque.
  • Visit a dentist twice a year to remove tartar.
  • Stop smoking.
