How to lose weight and stay slim?

American researchers have been studying 5,000 people who successfully lost weight (in average of 33 kilos) and who didn’t gain weight after losing it. After the research was done, the experts set some rules on how to lose weight and maintain it.

  1. 1. A diet in low calories and low in fat. The methods that most of the respondents where using are limiting of certain foods and counting grams of fat and calories. Despite the method chosen, 99 per cent of the respondents were limiting the intake of daily calories.
  2. 2. Increased physical activity. 90 per cent of the respondents were working out regularly. The average of the energy consumed was equal to one hour of fast walking. Most of the respondents admitted that they chose fast walking as a way to work out.
  3. 3. Breakfast! As much as 80 per cent of the respondents had breakfast every day.
  4. 4. Weighing frequently. 75 per cent if the participants were checking their weight at least twice a week. About 60 per cent were weighing every day.

In order to maintain their weight, the participants were using the same methods. Long term results were guaranteed by good nutrition, sports and constant checking of your weight. If they gained some weight, the diet would become stricter again.

If the participants were able to maintain their weight at least for 2 years, the risk of obesity was decreasing 2 times. One more important conclusion, none of the weight-loss methods can work every time. The methods are effective only if a person has a strong motivation.
