How to undergo headache without painkillers?

If you suffer from frequent headaches, painkillers are probably your best friends. However, do not rush. Try safer methods to relief pain.

  1. The easiest way is doing nothing, just lying down with your eyes closed and relaxing in complete silence. In most cases, pain is relieved in 10 or 15 minutes.
  2. Do a head massage lightly, from the forehead towards the crown. Then, tap the top of the head towards your ears and go down the neck. By the way, neck massage is very important too.
  3. Ventilate your room well or go for a walk in fresh air.
  4. Make the room a bit dark, moisten the air with cold water.
  5. Take a warm (not hot) bath. Add some sea salt, lavender lemon, marjoram or peppermint essential oil. If you don’t like baths, take a warm shower. This will help to relax tense neck and head muscles and ease spasmodic headaches.
  6. Do a cold compress. Compresses narrow the blood vessels in the affected area and reduce pain pulsation. Wrap some ice cubes in a towel and hold it to the sides of the head and neck for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Drink a glass of still water. Spams often occur because of the lack of liquids in your body. If often happens during hot summer days or after intense work outs at the gym.
  8. Eat something warm like soup or porridge. Irregular eating is often a cause of headache. It’s associated with glucose levels in blood.
  9. Listen to a quiet, pleasant music or watch some interesting TV show. Do something that makes you laugh. Laugh will release endorphins, hormones that are responsible for happiness.
