Selenium – No. 1 element that protects against cancer

US researchers have reported that selenium consumption is very promising element to prevent developing cancer. They offer to encourage people to consume more selenium-containing foods for health purposes.

The studies of several different groups of scientists have confirmed that selenium compounds help to effectively combat malignant cells. Blood biochemical researches have confirmed that selenium that we get from food reduces activity of malignant cells. Selenium also has a positive effect on the immune system. It doesn’t allow cancer cells to connect and spread in the body.

The best sources of selenium are broccoli and garlic. Brazil nuts are also a great choice if you want to store some more selenium in your body. If you like mushrooms, choose white ones. Beans, various seeds, brown rice, sunflower seeds, dried apricots, flax seeds, cabbage and spinach have large quantities of selenium too.

However, you should be careful with selenium supplements, because too high doses of it can be harmful. Daily rate of selenium for one person is measured in micrograms, not milligrams. Never exceed 400 micrograms of it.
