Natural ways to treat sinusitis

Sinusitis is an acute inflammatory disease which can develop into chronic disease if you don’t treat it. Sinusitis can be led by headaches, loss of smell, nasal swelling and so on. Sinusitis is more common among adolescence and older people. If sinusitis is accompanied by fever, most probably, you will need to consult a doctor. However, there are some natural remedies that will help to heal faster.

Humid air

Dry indoor air cause nasal dryness and irritability even for the healthiest people. For those having sinusitis, it has even worse consequences. Nasal mucosa becomes dry, it becomes difficult to breathe.

The best solution to this problem – air damper, which would maintain moisture level in your room. If you don’t have it, you can simply put a wet towel on a warm radiator or have some containers with water in your room.

Saltwater

One of the oldest means to fight cold is rinsing nose with salt water. You should use 0.5 tea spoon of sea salt in 1 glass of water. For deeper and more efficient treatment you should sniff water through your nose and let it come out through your mouth.

Vapor and compress

Another old trick is breathing hot steam. Steam moistens respiratory track, warms up the forehead which reduces stress and improves blood circulation. However, this treatment has a side effect. Hot steam can irritate sensitive skin or even damage your vocal cords. Instead of breathing hot steam you can simply make a warm compress.

Aromatherapy

Some essential oils can instantly make breathing easier. The best ones are rosemary, eucalyptus and peppermint. However, the researchers warn that this herbal treatment is not fully proven. Both peppermint and eucalyptus create an illusion of breathing easier. Some researchers say that aromatherapy only makes it feel better instantly but does not cure.
