Bad vision. Is it because of aging?

Macular degeneration is a common disorder that can be easily prevented. Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to do it. First of all what is this disease about?

It is one of the causes of visual impairment. This disease becomes increasingly common among elderly people. Macular degeneration is the main cause of blindness in developed countries. The symptoms of macular degeneration are vision problems, blurred vision, blindness, etc.

The worst part is that this disease is caused by unknown factors. The only proven risk factor is age. There are also lots of interfaces with smoking, arterial hypertension and inheritance. Some researchers believe that visual impairment is triggered by obesity, diet, sun exposure, inflammation and deficiency of antioxidants.

People often do not pay attention to minor ailments. This is a bad habit. It is worth to worry if you feel that your vision is worse than it used to be, dark stain appears in the middle of the visual field, straight lines look like crooked or intermittent for you.

The best solution is prevention. Make sure you live a healthy life, let your eyes to relax, take enough of vitamins, if you feel any symptoms, make sure to consult your doctor. There are two forms of macular degeneration – dry and wet. Dry macular degeneration cannot be treated but its process can be reduced. You can do it by using vitamins with lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamins A, E and C, zinc and selenium. Lutein is the most important as it works as antioxidant, it neutralizes free radicals, protects retina against harmful ultraviolet rays, improves ocular blood flow. Treating wet macular degeneration is a long and difficult process. Doctors choose what is the best individually. Usually they use laser, injections or surgical treatment.
