Coffee can prevent depression

According to BBC news, women who drink 2 or more cups of coffee per day have a lower risk of developing depression. So far it is still unclear how coffee can forestall depression, however, the authors of the study believe that chemical processes in our brain can be affected by caffeine in coffee. Decaffeinated coffee doesn’t have any effect on the brain.

The results have been published in the “Archives of Internal Medicine” and the have been obtained from the experiment that was attended by 50 thousand women in the United States. Experts claim that they will continue this experiment in order to understand the true relationship between the brain and caffeine. Besides, scientists believe that soon women will be advised to drink more coffee in order to maintain a good mood.

Harvard Medical School have been investigating a group of women in ten years – from 1996 to 2006. The data they obtained from the interviews where they had to answer questions about coffee. During that decade depression occurred only for 2600 women out of 50 000. These women practically didn’t drink coffee or they were using just a bit of it. Those who had 2-3 cups of coffee per day reduced the chance to develop depression by 15 percent.
