Varicose veins prevention

Varicose veins do not occur overnight. Vascular walls change gradually, so you can stop the disease if you start early. In the early stage you can usually have leg cramps and a few other symptoms: your legs get tired quickly and you may notice tiny blood vessels cobwebs formed on the thighs. If you still did not find any vein on the surface, take the following preventive measures:

  • If you stand at work for more than 4 hours, it causes additional load to veins . To reduce the damage every 15-20 minutes try to move the weight from one to the other foot.
  • If you work in a job where you need to sit for more than 7 hours, you should also take care of your veins. Go for a walk for at least 5 minutes per hour. Do not stand but walk.
  • Higher than 5 cm heels slow blood flow through the veins. This greatly affects the vein walls: they lose their elasticity and start expanding. Shoes with higher than 6 cm heels can be worn for up to 3 hours a day.
  • Varicose veins can appear if you do any sport, but that does not mean that exercising should be completely abandoned. Just in case you feel that your feet are suffering, abandon excessive exercising and choose walking, swimming or dancing.
  • Excessive sunlight and heat make the veins to expand, so if you want to be on the beach all day and protect your feet, never lay without moving for more than half an hour. Every half an hour walk for 10 minutes or go to swim. The temperature contrast will raise the tone of veins.
  • Cold water strengthens vein walls and hot – weakens. Take showers instead of baths.
  • Extra weight is also bad for veins, so if you are overweight, you should consider dropping some pounds.
  • Cigarettes and alcohol weaken vein walls. And in this regard there is no “safe dose”.
