Tips how to make your food more nutritious and healthy

Everyone knows that fresh fruits and vegetables have the most of vitamins and minerals, but not everybody likes eating them. So what else to do to get more nutrients from your food? Here are some general recommendations:

  • The simplest way to get all the necessary nutrients for your body is to eat a broad range of fruits and vegetables, as they contain everything your body needs.
  • Pay attention to the appearance of the products you buy. Rate if fruits and vegetables are not rotten, if they have any cracks or visible mold. The products should be beautiful, have a solid color and no dark spots.
  • The most valuable fruits and vegetables are those that have been stored for the shortest possible period. They are the most common to use. Also they preserve freshness using fewer chemicals.
  • Do not buy too many products. This is not practical, because if you don’t eat it, you will have to through it away and in order not to throw it away, you may be tempted to eat more.
  • The best place to keep vegetables is at the bottom of the refrigerator where the temperature is lower and the humidity can reach up to 90%. Wash them before use.
    Do not be afraid to touch the products you want to buy (for example, bananas should not be soft, and apricots or peaches – hard).
  • Smell. Each fruit and vegetable smells in their own way, but none of them should have unusual or strange odor.
  • Choose products according to their seasonal nature, to give priority to the neighboring countries and vegetables and fruits that grew in your country. Keep in mind that imported products are harvested green and stored in warehouses before they reache stores. Such fruits and vegetables have less useful substances.
    if you bought any unripe fruits and vegetables, leave them at room temperature. Cold weather usually has a negative impact on their nutritional characteristics.
  • Root vegetables(potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic) is not recommended to store in the refrigerator. Keep them in a dark and cool place.
  • Do not freeze a fruits or vegetables that have a lot of water(cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants). They should be stored at room temperature.
