Hearing loss and its prevention

Hearing loss can lead to serious consequences, like fear, social isolation, discomfort when trying to talk to others, the loss of confidence, self-esteem or even depression. According to latest research, one in two people who are 65 years old or more, have hearing problems. The most common disorder of hearing is the ear nerve’s damage, causing hearing loss, especially in the high-frequency sounds.

What exactly initiates hearing loss is difficult to say. Some researchers believe that this may be caused by free radicals’ damage. Hearing loss may be also initiated by ear infections, loud noises, brain tumors, various antibiotics, rubella, mumps. However, one of the most common causes of hearing loss is excessive accumulation of ear wax in ear canal. The treatment of such hearing loss is simple – the clogged ear canal is cleaned. Other natural hearing loss prevention methods, that should be used before it is not too late, are:

Alpha lipoic acid and vitamin E help to protect the ears against the damage of free radicals. Alpha lipoic acid is antioxidant that protects nerves of the ear. After some research it was revealed that alpha lipoic acid may also reduce the risk of hearing loss which is initiated by antibiotics and other drugs.

Glutathione is another effective antioxidant that may be useful to your hearing and it is powerful to prevent hearing loss before it is not too late. Glutathione is the substance in the brain that decreases because of the aging. It has been shown that this antioxidant can prevent hearing loss, protect ear nerve from damage and minimize the damage of the hearing centers of the brain.

Ginkgo biloba extract helps to reduce ‘ringing’ in the ears, which is associated with hearing loss. Various studies have shown that Ginkgo biloba extract reduces the symptoms of tinnitus, which could lead you to more serious disorders and even deafness.
