How to treat runny nose?

Runny nose is one of the most annoying illnesses that one can have. It is not recommended to wait until this problem will go away by itself and you should treat it. Usually runny nose is a symptom of cold.

Basically, runny nose is a nasal mucosal inflammation. You start feeling the your nose gets swollen, mucus clogs and it becomes heard to breathe. If you don’t treat it properly, you can have a risk to get serious complications (tonsillitis, otitis, etc.).

What should I do?

  • Cleaning nose. You can use sea water or simple salt solution, herbal infusions.
  • Nose drops. Pharmacists will suggest you various drops to make breathing easier.
  • Hot drinks. It is recommended to drink plenty of warm drinks. Tea with lemon, raspberry, honey or lime is a great medication too. You can breathe in the steam to make a broth.
  • Spicy foods, spices. Pepper, mustard, horseradish and other spices relieve mucus, improve blood circulation and reduce nasal congestion.
  • A warm shower. It warms up the body and frees your nose.
  • Foot treatments.
  • Inhalations. It is recommended to breathe in steam. If you are not allergic to essential oils, add some tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil to the hot water and breath its steam. You can also apply a drop of essential oils on your nostrils.
