Lack of hormones and the consequences of it

Hormones regulate many important interrelated processes in the body, including regulation of blood pressure and the level of glucose in blood. There are many reasons why we may lack some hormones, but the consequences are always the same. Our body doesn’t function the same way and in some cases it can lead to death.

There is no secret that a lack of hormones can cause diabetes, hypothyroidism or adrenal insufficiency. It can generally occur for the following reasons. Some people do not produce certain hormone because that is the way they were born. For example, this occures due to congenital hypothyroidism. Some autoimmune diseases can also cause a lack of hormones. In this case, the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the hormone as if it was an unknown substance. Infections, insufficient blood suply to the glans can also be the reasons of the lack of hormones.

Since hormones play many very important functions, the lack of them can lead to very serious consequences. For example, cortisin regulates blood pressure, insulin regulates the level of glucose in blood. If there is a lack of these hormones or they don’t exist at all, the processes controled by them are disrupted. One of the signs of adrenal failure is low blood pressure. People who have diabetes have significant rises in glucose level in blood.
