Osteoporosis is more common among women but it does not overtake men either

Osteoporosis is a bone disease when bone density and mass reduce and bones become more fragile which leads to experiencing fractures. The word “osteoporosis” translated from Greek means “porous bone”. Around until 30, bones grow faster and they thicken until they reach maximum mass. Later in life everything goes contrary – people start experiencing bone loss and thinning processes.

Previously it was believed that bone turnover is a natural process of aging. Smoking, alcohol consumption, poor diet (lack of calcium, especially during pregnancy) and lack of movement are the main reasons of developing osteoporosis. The main cause of it is hormonal abnormalities. Bone density changes dramatically after 5-10 years after menopause. Men, unlike women, develop osteoporosis because of variety of diseases: chronic pain of joints, kidneys, long diseases, active thyroid and parathyroid glands.

If someone in your family was suffering from this disease, it is very likely for you to develop it too. Osteoporosis is also influenced by low eight, removal of ovaries, heavy use of caffeine, using medicine against epilepsy, thyroid hormones, heparin and so on.

Osteoporosis starts quickly but the symptoms come later. At the begging you probably will not pay any attention until you will break something. You should take more concern if you feel pain in waist, lower chest area, cramps, sweating feet, etc.
