Products that can be safely used forever

Before you throw out the products from your kitchen cabinets and buy the new ones, make sure these purchases are actually necessary. Some products can survive for decades. Food starts to run out when various bacteria starts to reproduce initiating mold in your food. However, there are many preservatives in nature – compounds that are great in bacteria prevention. So, here are the products that can be kept for ages and safely eaten:

Sugar

Whether it is white or brown sugar, it will never become bad because it is not suitable for bacteria reproduction. Another thing that may trick you into thinking that the sugar is not good for using is its texture – it tends to come together into small sugar pieces. That’s not a sign that it is bad! To keep the sugar fresh, it should be kept in an air-tight container or plastic bag. If brown sugar turned into a stone, put it in a low-heated microwave or oven for less than a minute.

Rice

White, wild or basmati rice – all they can be kept forever, so they should never be thrown away. The exception can be called brown rice, because they have more oil inside, so they should be kept in the refrigerator. After opening the package of rice, keep them in the air-tight container or bag.

Vanilla extract

Pure vanilla extract can be used forever. However, the bottle with it should be carefully closed each time after using and stored in a cool, dry place.

Honey

The jar of honey can be used without any doubt until it ends. It may change its color or even fall into the grain, but it still remains safe to eat because it is protected from bacteria by sugar. In order to keep the honey fresh, it should be stored in a cool place, and grains can be damaged by keeping the jar in warm water.
