Products that may cause allergies

An allergic reaction starts when our immune system makes a mistake in identifying the product and considers it as harmful. If you like to cook for your family or friends, you should be familiar with the products that cause the most of allergic reactions.

Celery. Celery has been researched to be a possible agent of oral allergy syndrome which is still quite rarely identified. Reaction which comes out is usually irritated and itchy skin and swelling around the mouth. No matter how it is prepared, celery can also cause such possible reactions as nausea, asthma and even anaphylactic shock.

Sesame. Allergy to sesame is very popular in those places where it is widely used, like Japan and China and it can cause such reactions as anaphylactic shock and fainting. Unfortunately, but allergy for sesame lasts all human’s life, so if you are allergic to its seeds you will have to avoid them for the rest of your life.

Milk. Cow’s milk is one of the most common allergens – two to five percent of the children become allergic to cow’s milk before their first birthday. Fortunately, most of the children overcome this allergy in a period of few years and then can safely drink it but sometimes this allergy persists throughout life. Among the typical allergic reactions – asthma, hives and anaphylactic shock- allergy can also cause itching and spots.

Eggs. Many people are allergic to eggs – their yolks, whites or both. Among the possible reactions to this allergy we can exclude atopic dermatitis, anaphylactic shock or allergic rhinitis which means a runny nose and a headache. Allergy to eggs is one of the most frustrating, because they are found in many foods, like mayonnaise, almost all bakes, pasta and even candies.

Peanuts. Allergy to peanuts is one of the most common ones, which can even be a cause of the death. This allergy is extremely common among the young children, so experts warn do not recommend giving peanuts to them. If you are allergic to peanuts and accidentally eat some, you can expect atopic dermatitis, asthma and even the threatening anaphylactic shock. As you can see, eating peanuts can cause serious reactions, so read the labels before eating.

Fish. Although allergy to fish can be caused by various types of fish, cod and salmon are the leaders. Other serious agents can be anchovies, tuna, mackerel and sardines. If you find that you are allergic to one type of fish, there are huge chances that you are allergic to the other ones. In any case, try to avoid seafood restaurants, Worcestershire sauce and Caesar salad dressing, since they are classically made with anchovies.
